Racing Hearts: A Dive into Amy James's Crash Test Release Date July 1, 2025

Okay, bookworms, gather 'round! I've got a sneak peek at a book that's already got me hooked: "Crash Test" by Amy James. Seriously, this one sounds right up our alley. Imagine the fast-paced, adrenaline-pumping world of Formula 1 colliding with a romance that just gets you in the feels.

I was lucky enough to snag an advance copy of "Crash Test," which is dropping on July 1, 2025, thanks to Avon Books! This beauty is 352 pages of pure emotion – trust me, I loved every single one. It's priced at $18.99 USD (or $23.99 CAD) for the paperback.

Now, I don't want to spoil the ride, so here's what the publisher has to say:

Formula 1 meets Red, White, & Royal Blue in this contemporary romance in which an F1 phenom battling for the championship is sent spinning after his secret love is involved in a massive crash.

Okay, if that doesn't pique your interest, I don't know what will! Twenty-four-year-old F1 superstar Travis Keeping is on track for a championship when his secret boyfriend, fellow driver Jacob Nichols, is in a devastating crash. Suddenly, Travis's carefully constructed world starts to crumble. He's dealing with a partner fighting for his life, a confused team wondering about his drop in performance, and Jacob's parents who basically want him gone.

You'd think things would get easier when Jacob wakes up, right? Wrong. His parents have other ideas. As the F1 season continues, Travis and Jacob find themselves continents apart, both navigating their own struggles with the help of some new friends. It sounds like a journey of self-discovery that might just bring them back together. Fingers crossed!

What I really loved is how Amy James, who lives over in eastern Canada, blended the high-stakes drama of F1 with such a tender and real love story. It feels so relevant right now, especially with the popularity of shows like "Drive to Survive" and the growing love for authentic queer stories. Plus, who can resist a good secret romance and maybe a touch of enemies-to-lovers vibes?

And it’s not just me who's excited! I’ve seen some early buzz from authors like Sarina Bowen and Emma R. Alban praising the book's romance and emotional depth. Sounds like we might need some tissues for this one!

So, if you're like me and you're a sucker for a great sports romance, a heartwarming queer love story, or just a book that grabs you and doesn't let go, mark your calendars for "Crash Test" in July 2025.

Now for the real question: Does this sound like a book you'd pick up? Seriously, let me know in the comments – I'd love to hear your thoughts! And hey, if you enjoy these chats and want to keep the bookish love flowing, any support is always appreciated. But honestly, your comments and thoughts are what make this fun!

Until our next bookish adventure, happy reading!

One Perfect Couple: A Riveting Read by Ruth Ware with a Personal Connection

It’s not every day you get to meet one of your favorite authors in person, but I was lucky enough to cross paths with Ruth Ware at work the year before last. She was traveling back home to the UK and let me tell you—she was as wonderful and personable as her writing. It's taken quite a while before I was able to get around to reading One Perfect Couple, her latest thriller. I couldn’t help but think back on that encounter and how it added an extra layer of excitement to diving into her book.

Ruth Ware has always had a knack for creating suspenseful stories that leave you second-guessing everything and One Perfect Couple is no exception. The premise might seem simple at first: a seemingly perfect couple, secrets simmering below the surface and an unexpected tragedy that turns everything upside down. But as Ware does so well, the deeper you go the more tangled the web becomes.

The story unfolds in a way that keeps you hooked from start to finish. The couple at the heart of the book—Alice and Tom—appear flawless on the outside, but as you peel back the layers, their carefully curated image begins to crack. The alternating perspectives between Alice, Tom and the people around them add depth and intrigue, making it impossible to put the book down. Ware’s ability to weave suspense with emotional complexity is nothing short of masterful.

What really struck me about One Perfect Couple was the exploration of human vulnerability. It’s not just about the twists and turns (though there are plenty of those!); it’s about how people navigate love, trust and betrayal when their world is crumbling. Ware’s characters feel so authentic, you can’t help but empathize with their struggles—even when their decisions make you want to scream. That balance between suspense and raw emotion is one of the reasons I keep coming back to her books.

Meeting Ruth Ware in person gave me a glimpse into the warmth and creativity behind her stories. She had this way of making everyone around her feel at ease and that charm comes through in her writing, even when she’s crafting heart-pounding mysteries. To meet her without knowing who she is and what her work is like, you would never think such a person could create the stories she does. Knowing how personable she is only deepens my appreciation for the talent and care she puts into her work.

As I turned the final page of One Perfect Couple, I was left with that satisfying mix of closure and curiosity. It’s the kind of book that lingers with you, making you rethink your own perceptions of relationships and the secrets people keep. And let’s be honest—Ware’s ability to leave you questioning everything is one of the reasons she’s earned a spot on my favorite authors list.

Have you read One Perfect Couple or any of Ruth Ware’s other books? If you love a good thriller packed with suspense, emotion and impeccable pacing, this one’s for you. I’d love to hear your thoughts, theories or even your own encounters with authors that have made an impact on you. Drop a comment below—let’s keep the conversation going! And hey, if this review sparked your interest or brought a little joy to your day, consider supporting the blog. Every contribution helps keep these personal stories alive and fuels more great book discussions. No pressure—your readership is what truly matters. Falling for Heroics: A Personal Dive into The Extraordinaries by TJ Klune

I’m no stranger to TJ Klune’s work—I’ve fallen in love with his storytelling time and time again with In the Lives of Puppets and Under the Whispering Door. So when I picked up The Extraordinaries, I thought I knew what I was in for: heartfelt writing, a dash of humor and characters I’d never want to let go of. But nothing quite prepared me for how hooked I would be on this incredibly charming and fresh take on the gay teen superhero story. My inner superhero and my love for Wonder Woman throughout my life really made this special for me.

For those unfamiliar, The Extraordinaries introduces us to Nick Bell, a sixteen-year-old with a love for superheroes—particularly Shadow Star, the vigilante protecting his city. Nick’s also dealing with ADHD, an unfiltered internal monologue that often spills out into hilarious real-life situations and a passionate desire to make his dreams of superhero-dom a reality. Oh, and did I mention he writes fanfiction? Because he does—and it’s both a beautiful and cringeworthy hallmark of who Nick is. Like seriously he sounds like me but instead of writing fan fiction, I tried my hand at acting and singing and other ventures.

What Klune captures so brilliantly is the chaos and joy of being a teenager. I think we’ve all had those moments where we wanted to be part of something bigger, to prove ourselves to the world. Nick’s journey embodies that, complete with an awkward charm that had me laughing and rooting for him from the first page to the last.

Nick’s relationships are the heart of this story. His dad, a police officer and single parent, is a rock in Nick’s life, navigating the challenges of parenting a hyperactive and imaginative teen with love and humor. And then there’s Seth, Nick’s best friend—sweet, dependable and, well, clearly in love with him. Watching Nick bumble his way through completely missing the signs was simultaneously endearing and exasperating (in the best way possible).

Of course, there’s no superhero story without action and Klune delivers here too. Between Nick’s attempt to become a superhero himself—despite having no powers—and his efforts to get closer to Shadow Star, the story keeps you on your toes. There’s danger, mystery and enough twists to keep you guessing. But what makes it special is that it never loses its sense of humor and heart.

As much as I adored the action-packed moments, I kept coming back to the quieter, more reflective parts of the story. Klune weaves in themes of identity, self-worth and community with such care that they never feel heavy-handed. Nick’s story is laugh-out-loud funny, but it’s also deeply emotional—a reminder that being extraordinary doesn’t mean being perfect. It means being yourself.

By the time I reached the end of the first book, I was fully invested—not just in Nick’s story, but in the world Klune created. I won’t spoil anything, but let’s just say it’s the kind of ending that leaves you scrambling for the next book in the series (don’t worry, I’ll cover those in future posts).

TJ Klune has a knack for creating characters who are outcasts but yet feel like friends and stories that leave you better for having read them. The Extraordinaries is no exception. Whether you’re here for the superheroes, the heartwarming friendships or the laugh-out-loud moments, this book has it all. It’s the kind of story that makes you want to hug it to your chest after reading and then immediately start recommending it to everyone you know.

Have you read The Extraordinaries? Or maybe you have your own favorite TJ Klune book that you just can’t stop thinking about? Share your thoughts in the comments—I’d love to hear from you! Let’s geek out over queer superheroes, beautifully awkward teenage moments and the stories that make us feel seen. And hey, if this story brought a little joy to your day, consider supporting the blog. Every bit helps keep the passion alive and the stories flowing (and maybe fuels my next deep dive into Klune’s universe). No pressure—your presence here means the world to me. Here’s to celebrating extraordinary stories, one book at a time. 🌈✨

Flipping the Script: Mark Manson’s “The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*” Hits You With the Truth You Didn’t Know You Needed

If I’m being honest, self-help books aren’t really my thing. I’ve always considered myself pretty comfortable in my own skin and have no big regrets about the choices I’ve made in life. So when it came to The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*, my role was strictly that of a seller. I order the book pretty regularly for my stores because, no matter where I place it, it sells out quickly—which is unusual for a self-help title that’s been around for a while. That bright orange cover? It practically yells at you to pick it up.

At first, I skimmed through the book just to get a sense of what all the fuss was about. I wanted to know how to pitch it to customers and help my booksellers answer questions, especially since the title alone either pulls people in or makes them think it’s going to be a total downer. But then something unexpected happened. As I flipped through the pages, I started nodding along, finding myself intrigued enough to go back to the very beginning. By the time I hit the first chapter, “Don’t Try,” I was hooked—and, ironically, I didn’t have to try to finish it. The stories Mark Manson shared struck a chord with me in ways I didn’t see coming. Turns out, this wasn’t your typical self-help fluff.

In The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F, Mark Manson flips traditional self-help advice on its head with his brutally honest take on personal growth and happiness. Forget constant positivity and endless affirmations—instead, Manson urges us to accept life’s imperfections, confront our limitations, and, most importantly, focus on what really deserves our energy. It’s not about not caring at all; it’s about being selective with your time, attention, and—yes—your f**s.

Manson’s style is bold, relatable, and often laugh-out-loud funny (poop jokes included). He pairs real-life anecdotes with academic research, tackling topics like resilience, responsibility, and finding meaning in the messiness of life. The message is simple but profound: stop avoiding discomfort, embrace your flaws, and figure out what truly matters to you. It’s a wake-up call, a slap-in-the-face reality check, and an unexpectedly uplifting guide to living a more authentic and grounded life.
What I loved most about this book is that it doesn’t try to sugarcoat anything. Manson’s writing feels like having a brutally honest chat with your no-nonsense friend who tells it like it is, yet somehow still leaves you inspired. His approach isn’t about fixing yourself or becoming perfect—it’s about accepting your imperfect, messy self and learning to focus your energy where it counts. The rawness and relatability of his stories made me think back on my own experiences and how they shaped my priorities.

And let’s talk about the humor. It’s one thing to deliver life-changing advice; it’s another to do it with perfectly timed wit and a hefty dose of self-awareness. Manson doesn’t preach—he levels with you, balancing moments of hilarity with deeply thought-provoking insights. It’s a refreshing departure from the overly saccharine advice that saturates a lot of self-help books. Instead of offering easy fixes, he challenges you to sit with life’s discomfort and find value in it.

As someone who doesn’t usually gravitate toward this genre, I can wholeheartedly say that *The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F**** is worth the hype. It’s thought-provoking, engaging, and, dare I say, life-changing—not in a “transform yourself in five easy steps” kind of way, but in a “rethink what truly matters” kind of way.

So, what about you? Have you read The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*, or do you have thoughts about embracing life’s messiness? I’d love to hear your take in the comments—let’s chat about how this no-nonsense approach resonated with you (or didn’t). And hey, if you found this review helpful, any small contribution to fuel more late-night reads and thoughtful reviews would mean the world. 😉
Here’s to caring less about the fluff and more about what truly matters. Cheers!

Love, Lies, and Laughter: A Joyride Through Alexis Hall’s "10 Things That Never Happened"

There’s a certain magic in receiving a book as a gift. It feels like an unspoken acknowledgment—“This made me think of you.” That’s how I got my hands on 10 Things That Never Happened by Alexis Hall, courtesy of my manager, Brittani. It came my way after Christmas, a cheerful surprise that I hadn’t expected but wholeheartedly welcomed. I had intentionally refrained from purchasing it myself—I’d slipped it onto the Christmas gift guide I made for my partner, Terry, who likes a little direction when gift-giving rolls around. While Terry didn’t snag this one for me, Brittani swooped in like a literary Santa, and I couldn’t have been happier.

Having adored Boyfriend Material and Husband Material, 2 incredible books that Terry gifted me the Christmas before, I already trusted Alexis Hall to deliver another winner. I skipped over the ARC copy in my possession because I wanted the joy of savoring this story straight from the crisp, printed pages. And let me tell you, it was worth the wait.

Sam Becker is living his best managerial life—or at least, he was until his boss, Jonathan Forest, summoned him to the Croydon branch for "a talk." Sam loves his role managing the Leeds location of a bed and bath retailer. He’s a natural leader, creating a workplace his team genuinely loves—a rare feat. But Jonathan, the intimidating, no-nonsense owner of the company, sees things differently. Hiring Sam had been a sentimental decision, one he now regrets. Determined to rectify his perceived mistake, Jonathan is ready for a tough conversation.

Only, things take an unexpected turn. Sam, thoroughly panicked by the prospect of a confrontation with his surly boss, bumps his head. And in a moment of impulsive genius—or sheer terror—he decides to fake amnesia. What starts as a wild excuse to save his job turns into something much more complicated as Jonathan, wracked with guilt, takes Sam into his home to "recover."

As Sam gets to know Jonathan better, he starts to see a softer, more human side to the man he once thought was all steel and edges. But with their relationship evolving under the shadow of one big lie, Sam faces a dilemma: can he come clean without breaking what they’ve built? Alexis Hall masterfully blends laugh-out-loud moments with deeply touching scenes, crafting a rom-com that’s as heartfelt as it is hilarious.

Sam and Jonathan’s journey is everything I love about Alexis Hall’s writing. These characters aren’t just protagonists; they feel like real, flawed people with quirks, insecurities, and layers that peel back over the course of the story. Sam’s sunny disposition and Jonathan’s gruff exterior create a delightful opposites-attract dynamic, and watching their relationship evolve is nothing short of enchanting.
What makes this book shine is the emotional depth behind all the humor. One moment you’re giggling at Sam’s antics, and the next, you’re hit with a wave of poignancy that stays with you. Alexis Hall excels at creating stories where love doesn’t just happen despite the messiness—it happens because of it. And the supporting cast? Pure gold. They bring added hilarity and heart, making the story even richer.

It’s not just a rom-com; it’s a reminder of the beauty in vulnerability, second chances, and the courage to face the truth—even when it’s messy.

Have you had the chance to read 10 Things That Never Happened yet? What were your standout moments? I’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments. Let’s gush, laugh, and dissect this incredible story together! And hey—if you’re feeling extra generous today, know that any small token of appreciation to fuel more bookish adventures is always treasured. 😉
Here’s to stories that make us laugh, cry, and believe in the beauty of messy, complicated love!

This Bird Has Flown: A Note-Perfect Rom-Com by Bangles lead singer Susanna Hoffs

If you’ve ever hit replay a thousand times on Manic Monday, sang along to Eternal Flame or jammed to Walk Like an Egyptian, then you’re probably just as devoted to the Bangles as I am. Their album Different Light was a game-changer for me as a kid. It not only filled my days with infectious melodies but sparked a love for music that shaped my entire childhood. Susanna Hoffs, the lead singer of the Bangles, became a sort of icon in my life. I followed her career like a true fan, collecting every album, single and in recent years, her collaborations with Matthew Sweet. One of my favorite recent covers is her rendition of They Don’t Know, originally by Kirsty MacColl and later a hit for Tracey Ullman. I’ve always admired her artistry, but when I heard she was releasing her debut novel, I was hesitant. Could a legendary musician also be a great author? Let me tell you—Susanna absolutely delivered.

As many of you may have noticed, my book interest usually gravitates around Young Adult, LGBTQ, History and Self-Help but being a fan of Susanna, I couldn't resist the temptation of delving into her her novel, This Bird Has Flown, which swept me off my feet. It's a racy, witty rom-com—a delightful fusion of Bridget Jones and Daisy Jones. At its heart is Jane Start, a talented singer who’s been stuck in the shadow of her younger years. She’s lost, broke and grappling with the weight of past fame. But life takes an unexpected turn when Jane meets Tom Hardy (no, not the actor—an Oxford professor) on a flight to London. What follows is a rollercoaster of emotions, romance and rediscovery, all set against a soundtrack of nostalgia-inducing musical references. From struggles with past relationships to the whirlwind of love and fame, Jane’s story is as raw and personal as it is entertaining.

I first read the hardcover version of this book shortly after its release and it immediately captivated me. I also had the pleasure of listening to the audiobook, which is brought to life by the incredible narrations of Susanna Hoffs herself and Juliet Stevenson. Their voices added so much depth and charm to the story, making it a truly immersive experience. For those who prefer to wait for paperbacks, the book was released in paperback March 5, 2024, from Back Bay Books.

Reading this book felt like diving headfirst into spring—it was as refreshing as blasting In Your Room on repeat. Susanna’s storytelling radiates warmth and charm, creating a journey that’s clever, sexy and laugh-out-loud funny. I especially appreciated the nods to music throughout the book; they add a layer of depth and nostalgia that make the story even more engaging.

What really struck me was Susanna’s ability to weave music into every aspect of the narrative. Jane Start, the protagonist, struggles with writer’s block, heartbreak and the challenges of reinventing herself. But thanks to her best friend Pippa (who’s an absolute gem of a character), a spontaneous trip to London sparks both creativity and connection. Her relationship with Tom is fiery and real, filled with all the ups and downs that make you root for them from page one.

In true Susanna fashion, as with her own music, she doesn’t hold back when it comes to exploring Jane’s anxieties and insecurities. Watching Jane rediscover her confidence was inspiring—it’s a reminder that second chances are always within reach. And the supporting cast? Perfection. Every character brought their own charm to the story, making it a joy to read from start to finish.

For those who love authors like Taylor Jenkins Reid, Linda Holmes, Elin Hilderband, Andrew Sean Greer or Katherine St. John, this book is an absolute must-read. And if you're a fan of celebrity gossip or intrigued by the inside world of music, you’ll devour every page. Susanna’s novel strikes the perfect balance between escapism and relatability, delivering a story that is sure to connect with readers across generations.

Whether you’re a longtime fan of Susanna Hoffs or just discovering her work, This Bird Has Flown is a debut novel that hits all the right notes. It’s funny, heartfelt and brimming with music-filled nostalgia. I’d love to hear your thoughts! Have you read the book yet? If so, what did you think? Share your comments below—I would love to hear your thoughts of this book. And if this review brightened your day or brought a smile to your face, feel free to show your appreciation in any way that feels right. 😉 Every little bit helps keep these posts going strong!

Now, queue up your favorite Bangles playlist, grab a copy of This Bird Has Flown and enjoy. Happy reading!

Taylor Jenkins Reid: The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo: A Captivating Journey Through Glamour and Heartbreak

Sometimes a book comes along that not only stands out in the crowded literary world but leaves a lasting impression on every reader who turns its pages. "The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo" by Taylor Jenkins Reid is one such masterpiece. In my stores, the book stores in the Atlanta airport, this book has been a huge seller and topped our bestseller bay. Even two years later, it's still within our top 36 trade paperback books, and for good reason.

I have to admit, I held off reading it until almost a year after I started working for the company. One day, curiosity got the best of me, and I caved. I devoured the entire book in about a day and a half, mostly through the audiobook version, which I still consider reading because you're absorbing the author's words exactly as intended.

The story of Evelyn Hugo, an aging and reclusive Hollywood movie icon, is nothing short of mesmerizing. Her decision to reveal the truth about her glamorous and scandalous life is a tale of ruthless ambition, unexpected friendship, and a great forbidden love. The Indiependent praised it as a masterpiece, highlighting the compelling narrative that tugs at the heartstrings and the immaculately fleshed-out character of Evelyn Hugo. The book doesn't shy away from exploring dark and important themes such as sexual exploitation, domestic violence, and the restrictions faced by queer women in Hollywood.

On Goodreads, the book boasts an impressive average rating of 4.41 out of 5 stars from over 3.6 million ratings. Readers have lauded it for its phenomenal storytelling and emotional impact. Kirkus Reviews described it as a celebration of human frailty that speaks to the Marilyn Monroe and Elizabeth Taylor in all of us. The book is a fascinating blend of celebrity tell-all style and emotional depth.

Taylor Jenkins Reid, the brilliant author of "The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo," has crafted a story that is both captivating and heartfelt. Her ability to bring characters to life and create a narrative that resonates with readers is truly remarkable. Reid's attention to detail and her knack for weaving complex, multidimensional characters make this book an unforgettable read.

The characters in the book are richly developed and unforgettable. From Evelyn's seven husbands to the journalist chosen to tell her story, each character adds depth and complexity to the narrative. Interestingly, many characters were inspired by real people, fictionalized to create a compelling story. One of these characters is based on Tab Hunter, a man I knew in real life. This personal connection makes the story even more meaningful to me.

Once I got past the first two chapters, I was hooked. Evelyn's story resonated with me on a deep level, and I couldn't put the book down. The audiobook version was an incredible experience, as I felt like I was listening to Evelyn's actual recount her life story. The book's exploration of themes like love, ambition, and identity is both thought-provoking and emotionally charged.

"The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo" is a book that stays with you long after you've turned the final page. I'd love to hear your thoughts and experiences with this book in the comments below. And if you feel inspired, any contributions or gifts are always appreciated but never expected. Let's celebrate this incredible story together.

Embracing the Magic of "Charlotte's Web" by E.B. White

Ah, "Charlotte's Web"—a book that holds a special place in my heart. It's one of those timeless classics that has touched so many lives, including mine. I still remember my 2nd grade teacher, Mrs. Priscilla Herring, reading it to our class over the course of a week. Each day, I eagerly anticipated the next chapter, falling more and more in love with the characters.

For those who haven't had the pleasure, "Charlotte's Web" is the heartwarming story of a pig named Wilbur and his extraordinary friendship with a clever spider named Charlotte. E.B. White weaves a tale of friendship, loyalty, and the circle of life in a way that is both enchanting and deeply moving.

I became so attached to Wilbur, Charlotte, and the rest of the barnyard crew. By the time we reached the end of the book, I was unconsolable. I cried for hours, even after I got home from school. My mom had to call Mrs. Herring at home to ask her to please not read any more books about animals dying to me because I love all animals—including snakes and rats. I've even found Black Widow spiders in my garage that, even though I don't have reactions to their venom, I relocate because I don't want them to bite anyone in my house, but I also don't want the spider to die. That's how much this book impacted my love for all creatures.

E.B. White is a masterful storyteller, known not just for "Charlotte's Web," but also for other beloved classics like "Stuart Little" and "The Trumpet of the Swan." His ability to create such vivid, memorable characters and imbue his stories with profound life lessons is truly remarkable.

Over the years, "Charlotte's Web" has seen numerous special editions, including beautifully illustrated versions and anniversary editions that make lovely additions to any collection. The story has also been adapted into several movies, including the charming 1973 animated film and the more recent 2006 live-action/animated hybrid featuring the voices of Julia Roberts and Dakota Fanning. Each adaptation brings its own unique touch to this beloved story.

"Charlotte's Web" has left an indelible mark on me, and I'd love to hear your thoughts and experiences with this book. Please feel free to share your memories and reflections in the comments below. And hey, if you have a special edition that you're willing to part with, I'd be thrilled to give it a new home. Your support and comments mean the world to me.

Thank you for joining me on this nostalgic journey. Let's keep the love for timeless stories like "Charlotte's Web" alive!

Falling for "Husband Material": A Heartfelt Review of Alexis Hall's Sequel

The beginning of 2023, I had the absolute pleasure of diving into Husband Material by Alexis Hall, thanks to a lovely Christmas gift from Terry in 2022. Along with Husband Material, which was published by Sourcebooks Casablanca on August 2, 2022, Terry also gave me Boyfriend Material, released by Sourcebooks Casablanca on July 30, 2021, and I love both books so much!

Alexis Hall has an incredible gift for blending humor and heart into every page. The chemistry between Luc and Oliver is as electric and endearing as ever. Their journey feels authentic and relatable, filled with laugh-out-loud moments, tender scenes, and just the right amount of drama to keep you hooked from start to finish.

Having already reviewed Boyfriend Material, I was excited to dive into Husband Material, and it truly exceeded my expectations. The character development is fantastic, and Hall's writing style is so engaging that it feels like you're catching up with old friends. Luc and Oliver's relationship evolves in such a natural and heartfelt way, making you root for them even more.

If you're a fan of witty, romantic, and heartwarming stories, Husband Material is a must-read but please make sure you read Boyfriend Material before diving in. It's a perfect blend of humor and emotion that will leave you smiling long after you turn the last page. Alexis Hall has once again proven why he's a master of the romantic comedy genre.

I can't wait to see what Alexis Hall has in store for Luc and Oliver in the future. Their story has been an absolute joy to follow, and I'm eagerly anticipating the next chapter in their lives.

If you've read Husband Material or Boyfriend Material, I'd love to hear your thoughts! Drop a comment below and let me know what you loved about these books. Any recommendations for similar reads are also welcome! And if you enjoyed this review and want to show a little love, feel free to send a small token of appreciation my way. 😊

Glamazon Queen Kong: My Life of Glitter, Guts, and Glory by Deanna Booher Book Review

Many years ago, I downloaded "Glamazon Queen Kong: My Life of Glitter, Guts, and Glory" by Deanna Booher to my Kindle, intending to read it once my life returned to normal after starting a new job. Despite juggling various activities like knitting and writing, I finally found the time to dive into this book.

I've been a huge fan of Deanna's portrayal of Matilda the Hun from GLOW: The Gorgeous Ladies of Wrestling, as well as her many appearances in various films, television shows, and music videos. Little did I know that this lady, whose mainstream work in the entertainment business seemed to revolve around her image as a big bad lady wrestler with a playful and sexy flair, had much more going for her than just beating on people. In fact, my friend Beastie, yes, the same Beastie from GLOW, had been friends with "Queenie" for many years. Beastie told me there was more to Queenie than what we knew from her GLOW days. Within the first two chapters, I realized Beastie's statement was an understatement. Having flown through the book in just three days, I discovered that Deanna aka Dee aka Queenie aka Matilda aka Queen Kong is possibly one of the most fascinating people I've ever read about.

Deanna's writing style shows that every word she's written comes straight from the heart. Open, honest—no, brutally honest—and unapologetic are just some of the impressions I felt as I read. Queenie's words kept me on the edge of my seat, wondering what she'd say next. I expected a bulk of this biography to feature wrestling, music videos, and the world of entertainment, but that doesn't come up until the last third of the book. I quickly realized this book is not about a wrestler; it's about the life of a woman who just fell into the world of wrestling.

Deanna's book starts off with her humble beginnings in Torrance, California, and follows her life in chronological order. Her dysfunctional family and childhood issues felt as if she had channeled many of my own situations within my own childhood. Her teen years, leading up to the birth of her son, are heartbreaking yet relatable to anyone who grew up with dreams of being something "extra special" and feeling the need to do whatever it took to please others. I commend her for her mention of her use of LSD, weed, and alcohol because most self-penned "tell-all" books skirt over drug use or candy-coat it, making it all sound glamorous. Queenie's no-holds-barred accounts of being violated, used, and broken down are as fascinating as they are sad.

Queenie's biggest supporter throughout her life was her amazing husband, Ken. The chapters featuring Ken & Queenie's years as swingers and their home-based phone sex and fantasy business made me blush, and I had to skim the pages quickly if I happened to be on the train or bus for fear of someone looking over my shoulder and seeing one of Queenie's photos featuring one of her Glamazon characters and assuming I was reading porn or looking at dirty pictures.

As I mentioned earlier, Queenie's mainstream entertainment career isn't covered until the last part of the book. Her accounts of GLOW, POWW, and the Bruce Willis bachelor party are worth the wait. Queenie puts to rest the untrue notion that Jacqueline Stallone was the creator of GLOW. The truth is that it was a joint venture between David McLane and Matt Cimber. Queenie dishes the dirt on many of her GLOW sisters and colleagues, both the good, the bad, and the ugly, including David McLane, Matt Cimber, Americana, Spanish Red, and even the owner of GLOW until her recent death, Ursula aka Babe the Farmer's Daughter. Beastie, Lightning, Hollywood, Daisy, Godiva, Roxy Astor, and even Mountain Fiji get super shoutouts within this amazing book.

Queenie's no-holds-barred mentions don't stop with GLOW. Be prepared for some spilled tea featuring the likes of Sylvester Stallone, Arnold Schwarzenegger, and many others.

As Beastie told me, there is more to Queenie than what we know from GLOW. Once you read this book, you'll not only be a fan of Matilda/Queen Kong, but you'll also fall in love with the woman behind those iconic personas, Deanna Booher. As mentioned previously, I purchased the e-book without knowing that I would ever meet her. I had the pleasure of meeting Queenie on a week-long cruise with other GLOW girls in 2016 and can attest that her book is as genuine as she was. Sadly, she didn't have any copies of her physical book to purchase on the cruise, but she did autograph another book she was featured in as well as my DVD of The Story of the Gorgeous Ladies of Wrestling documentary.

Looking for a good read featuring one of the coolest, most honest, and fascinating people in the world? Do yourself a favor and buy this book!

"In the Lives of Puppets" by TJ Klune - A Hilarious and Heartfelt Adventure Book Review

Hey everyone! I've got an absolute gem of a book to share with you today—"In the Lives of Puppets" by TJ Klune. If you enjoy stories that are both hilarious and heartwarming, then you’re in for a treat! I read this book last year, and let me tell you, it was an absolute blast! The characters are so lovable, and I found myself laughing out loud so many times, especially with Nurse Ratched and Rambo. So, let’s dive into this fantastic adventure and see what makes it so special.

Imagine "Swiss Family Robinson" meets "Wall-E" in the woods. That's the vibe of this fantastic standalone fantasy from the beloved New York Times and USA Today bestselling author TJ Klune. He takes us on an extraordinary journey deep into the heart of a peculiar forest, following a family assembled from spare parts.

In this strange little home built into the branches of a grove of trees, we meet three robots: the fatherly inventor android Giovanni Lawson, a pleasantly sadistic nurse machine, and a small vacuum desperate for love and attention. Victor Lawson, a human, lives there too, making them a unique and hidden family.

One day, Vic salvages and repairs an unfamiliar android labeled "HAP." He soon discovers a dark past shared between Hap and Gio—a past that involves hunting humans. Things take a wild turn when Hap accidentally alerts robots from Gio's former life to their location, putting the family's safety at risk. Gio is captured and taken back to his old laboratory in the City of Electric Dreams.

Determined to save Gio, Vic and his assembled family embark on a journey across an unforgiving and otherworldly country. Along the way, Vic grapples with feelings of betrayal and affection for Hap, forcing him to decide whether he can accept love with strings attached.

Inspired by Carlo Collodi's "The Adventures of Pinocchio," "In the Lives of Puppets" is a masterful stand-alone fantasy adventure from TJ Klune, the author who brought us "The House in the Cerulean Sea" and "Under the Whispering Door."

If you’re into heartfelt, funny, and whimsical stories, "In the Lives of Puppets" is a must-read. It’s got a perfect mix of adventure, humor, and emotional depth that will keep you hooked from start to finish.

I hope you find my review of "In the Lives of Puppets" by TJ Klune helpful and inspiring. If you’ve had the chance to read the book, I’d love to hear your thoughts and experiences—please leave a comment below. Your feedback helps build our wonderful reading community.

Boyfriend Material by Alexis Hall - Hilarious LGBTQIA+ Romcom Book Review

I can't believe it's taken me this long to review "Boyfriend Material" by Alexis Hall, but I have to say, it's a hilarious and heartwarming read! Terry gifted me this book for Christmas 2022, along with the sequel "Husband Material," and I absolutely fell in love with the characters. 🌈

This LGBTQIA+ romantic comedy centers around Luc O’Donnell, who’s reluctantly famous thanks to his rock star dad. When Luc ends up in the spotlight for all the wrong reasons, he needs some serious damage control to save his reputation. That’s where Oliver Blackwood comes in. Oliver is everything Luc is not—handsome, successful, and scandal-free. He’s an ethical vegetarian and totally put together. Basically, he’s perfect boyfriend material.

To fix his public image, Luc comes up with a plan: fake dating Oliver. But as their fake relationship starts to feel a lot more real, both Luc and Oliver have to decide if they’re ready to fight for their new romance, despite the scandals and consequences that might come their way.

The chemistry between Luc and Oliver is off the charts, and their journey from fake dating to real feelings is full of laughs, misunderstandings, and heartfelt moments. Alexis Hall does a fantastic job of blending humor with genuine emotion, making this book an absolute delight to read.

I actually read this back in April 2023 and just got around to writing my review, but the story has stayed with me ever since. If you’re into romantic comedies with a twist and loveable characters, "Boyfriend Material" is definitely a must-read. Huge thanks to Terry for this amazing Christmas gift—I flew through both this and its sequel, "Husband Material," pretty fast and can't wait to see what Alexis Hall has in store for Luc and Oliver in the future!

A Shamrocking Good Time with "Go Luck Yourself" by Sara Raasch - A Holiday Romance to Remember

Hey everyone! If there's one thing you should know about me, it's that I'm a massive fan of holiday-themed reads. So, when I got my hands on an early copy of Go Luck Yourself from Bramble/Macmillan, I was beyond excited! 🎉

Since I adored Sara Raasch's last book, Nightmare Before Kissmas (which I eagerly reviewed back in October), I couldn't wait to dive into her latest festive adventure. And guess what? It totally lives up to the hype!

Sara Raasch, a New York Times bestselling author, brings us this merry, mischievous follow-up. This time, there’s a new holiday rivalry brewing, and it’s absolutely delightful! Can we also take a moment to appreciate those stunning shamrock green sprayed edges? Gorgeous!

The story is an enthralling enemies-to-lovers romance that pairs the spare prince of Christmas with the crown prince of St. Patrick’s Day. Someone’s been stealing Christmas’s joy, and the only clue is a single shamrock. With Coal busy and their dad having a midlife crisis in the Caribbean, Kris volunteers to investigate St. Patrick’s Day to distract himself from his own romantic woes.

Going undercover as an ambassador from Christmas, Kris's journey is anything but smooth. It turns out Prince Lochlann Patrick, Crown Prince of St. Patrick’s Day, is the same guy Kris has been feuding with for months at Cambridge. Despite trying to play nice for the tabloids, the tension between them is palpable. Kris can’t talk to Loch without feeling a mix of frustration and, surprisingly, attraction. Yep, Kris might be in trouble.

Raasch perfectly blends holiday magic and romance, creating an engaging and heartwarming tale. The chemistry between Kris and Lochlann is off the charts, with the perfect mix of humor, tension, and festive cheer.

If you’re a fan of holiday romances with a twist, Go Luck Yourself is a must-read. Huge thanks to Macmillan & Bramble for the early access!

I’d love to hear your thoughts! Have you read Go Luck Yourself or any of Sara Raasch's other books? What are your favorite holiday romances? Share your memories and stories in the comments below.

Your recommendations—or even a small token of appreciation—would certainly make my day and help me continue sharing the joy of reading. Let’s keep the spirit of storytelling alive together! 🎶✨

Thank you for joining me on this festive literary adventure. Let's celebrate the magic of books and the memories they create! 📚💖

My review of Elphie: A Wicked Childhood" by Gregory Maguire

Gregory Maguire is back at it again with "Elphie: A Wicked Childhood," a prequel to his amazing "Wicked" series. Set to be released on March 25, 2025, this book dives into the early days of Elphaba, the future Wicked Witch of the West.

As someone who orders books for my store, I was lucky enough to get early access to "Elphie," courtesy of HarperCollins. And let me tell you, it's a fantastic read!

"Elphie" gives us a peek into the childhood of Elphaba, who is just as intriguing as you'd imagine. Growing up with a wild mix of a free-spirited mom and a super strict dad, she faces all sorts of family drama. Plus, her green skin makes her stand out, but it's her cleverness and strong will that really make her shine.

Maguire does an awesome job of blending themes like love, loss, and the search for who you really are. Elphaba's interactions with the Animals (the talking creatures of Oz) and her rocky relationships with her siblings, Nessarose and Shell, add layers to her character that you might not have expected.

Even though "Elphie" might tug at your heartstrings, it's definitely a must-read for any "Wicked" fan. The backstory it provides really helps you understand why Elphaba becomes the way she is. You'll see the events that shape her into the iconic Wicked Witch.

To sum it up, "Elphie: A Wicked Childhood" is a fantastic addition to the "Wicked" world. It sheds light on the early experiences that made Elphaba such a captivating character. Fans of Maguire's work are in for a treat with this prequel. It's both enlightening and emotionally engaging.

"Stephen King's 'Fairy Tale' - A thrilling fantasy novel about a teenager who discovers a magical world and battles dark forces."

Stephen King's Fairy Tale

"Fairy Tale" by Stephen King is a captivating blend of fantasy and horror, though in a light sense, that takes readers on an unexpected journey. The story follows Charlie Reade, a high school senior who inherits a magical portal from his reclusive neighbor, Howard Bowditch. As Charlie navigates this new world filled with dark forces and epic battles, he grapples with themes of courage, friendship, and the power of good versus evil. King's masterful storytelling and rich character development make this novel a thrilling and heartfelt adventure that will keep readers on the edge of their seats.

King's ability to create vivid, immersive worlds shines in "Fairy Tale." The magical realm Charlie discovers is filled with intricate details and compelling characters that draw readers in from the start. The narrative is both enchanting and chilling, with moments of levity and warmth balanced by the darker, more sinister elements that King is known for. Charlie's journey is not just a physical one but also an emotional and psychological exploration of his own strengths and vulnerabilities.

One of the standout aspects of "Fairy Tale" is how King seamlessly blends elements of classic fairy tales with his signature horror style. The story feels both familiar and entirely new, as King pays homage to the timeless themes of good versus evil, bravery, and sacrifice while infusing the narrative with his unique voice. The result is a book that feels both timeless and contemporary, offering readers a fresh take on the fantasy genre.

Overall, "Fairy Tale" is a must-read for fans of Stephen King and anyone who loves a good fantasy adventure. It's a story that lingers long after the final page, leaving readers pondering the nature of heroism, the power of storytelling, and the magic that exists in the world around us. If you're looking for a book that will transport you to another world and keep you hooked from beginning to end, "Fairy Tale" is definitely worth picking up.
