Paw-Paw Steven's Chow Chow

While I was back home after my dad passed away, I found my mom's old recipe box in my sister's dining room and decided to sit down and check it out. I stumbled upon a few recipes that I remembered being amazing including the following one for "Chow Chow" also known as a veggie relish which originated from my grandfather. My grandfather kept a garden because he knew it was cheaper to raise your own produce than buy it in the store. He also didn't like letting produce go to waste so he began making his Chow Chow as a way to not have to throw his produce in the garbage.

After copying the recipe, my mom asked for me to mail her the same recipe...Keeps slipping my mind so here it is in all it's glory

Paw-Paw Steven's Chow Chow
1 Cabbage Chopped
1 pint green tomatoes ground
2 onions chopped
1 cup vinegar
1 cup sugar
3 pods hot pepper (to taste)
1 green pepper
1/2 tsp salt
1 tsp cinnamon
1 tsp allspice
1/8 tsp cloves
2 tsp dry mustard
2 bay leaves

Render down in pot 1 hour until tender

Pack in sterilized jars to 1/2 inch of lid. Screw firmly and process if canning.

From my Paw-Paw's, my Mom's and My kitchen to yours....ENJOY!!!
